Living with someone can be much cheaper than living alone, but you also have to compare the cost of living with another human being.

Our two bedroom apartments are $400/tenants compared to $440 for a 1, bedroom, 1 bathroom aparment. Cash adds up when you don’t have to dish out most of your paycheck for rent.

Benefits

You can split utilities
With school, work, and social life, you’re away from the house long hours. It’s safer to live with someone who may be at home when you’re not.
You expand your friend group
You’ll feel better ordering mass amounts of pizza, even if your roommate doesn’t end up eating it.
You can share furniture, TVs, streaming subscription, and food costs.

Considerations

Roommate can be weird. Try to screen your search and find someone who prefers similar habits as you.
Form the lease so you pay separately. If you get ditched, your credit will survive, and you won’t get stuck with the bill.
Plan how much you’re comfortable paying in utilities
Find things you like to do weekly. Humans are social beings. Carbondale has great nightlife options.
