You don’t have to be stuck in an office cubicle for the rest of your career.
Some people love the community in an office. But you can have community through work in several ways. If you want to work a job in which you travel, then find a way to one.
The future of work is changing; jobs give fewer benefits and is turning to contract work. The amount of jobs millennials will hold in a lifetime is 12. But I bet it’ll be more.
More people will start businesses and work contracts with multiple companies. That means people will pursue their own means to make cash.
The first position you hold doesn’t dictate the rest of your career. Pick a specialty and master it so that you love what you do, or in which you’re at least interested. The more you learn, the more value you can provide to companies. The future is leaning toward digital data. I knew little about websites and SEO three months ago; I’ve immersed myself since. I’m working on my third website, religiously reading guides on the internal functions of the internet, and earned my Google Analytics Certificate.
I don’t know exactly what work I’ll do in the future. But I know what topics I love to read about and how to put them into practice.
I don’t want to be stuck in an office for the entire workday. Maybe it’s two jobs and multiple years from where I am, but I’ll find a company with a remote or flextime policy, or incorporate travel to my career. I’m obsessed with creating my best life, whether it’s my health or finances. You’ll spend 90,000 hours, ⅓ of your life at work. Find something that you want to master.
My ideal career probably isn’t yours. Each person desires different destinations. It’s ok if you don’t absolutely love your current job. But pick the parts you like and master them. If you like writing, find a way to practice. It doesn’t matter if that’s starting a blog or pitching content to websites. All great things started small. Do the things that you want to do, but fear doing.
I’ll continue to blog about how I’m working with websites and SEO. Stay tuned for some crazy stories.
